Life in Fiji seems to suit Florida Atlantic University alumni because for the third time, a former Owl has made it to the finale of the hit reality TV show Love Island USA.

Aniya Harvey, daughter of retired NBA Player Donnell Harvey, graduated from FAU in 2024 with a degree in Business Marketing. Harvey also spent a lot of her time on the court playing for the FAU volleyball team.

Harvey is now one of the six known Love Island contestants from FAU and placed second alongside her partner Carl Schmidt on the finale that aired on Sunday.

The Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the State University System’s 12 public universities, met at Florida Atlantic University on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss university initiatives and statewide higher education policies.

During the two-day meeting, board members approved FAU’s new five-year strategic plan, which outlines the university’s priorities through 2031. The Board also debated and approved revised language in an admissions regulation concerning applicants who are “unlawfully present” in the United States.

As the FIFA World Cup begins across North America, national teams are setting up base camps across the continent. In Boca Raton, the Caribbean nation of Curaçao’s national football team has made Florida Atlantic University home.

On Thursday, the team welcomed 5,000 fans to an open practice at Flagler Credit Union Stadium on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, where supporters watched Curaçao train ahead of its World Cup debut.

“The selection is a testament, not only to our incredible facilities, but the world-class destination that Boca Raton has become,” said FAU Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White in a press release.
