FYI- I do not use these front clip harnesses for this reason as well as it limits the dogs’ natural gait.
This is such important info. Rarely I see dogs than can walk properly on a front clip harness. It was pushed hard for a while with the big wave of positive reinforcement only trainers as a humane way to stop pulling. I use to recommend them too without knowing how damaging they could be. Spread the word! They were meant to tug and release so it wouldn't be actively tight but so many dogs I see still pull or the owner does not realize the leash is too tight, causing the front end to shift. Could be lasting damage especially for a growing large breed pup! * Edit* As pointed out in some comments this comparison is not accurate and MANY factors including genetics play a role. What I do like about this is although exaggerated it visually depicts the type of pressure that can be put on the front end. This is a random comparison someone made using a dog with severe gait issues likely caused by multiple other factors, it does not negate the risk of muscle imbalance, gait changes and lasting damage caused by pulling while using restrictive front clip harnesses. If you use this harness, some of the folks at the Penn vet working dog center recommended to rotate them upsidown to help the front strap sit higher, making the tool safer to use.
I am busy training dogs and do not normally post my work. When I am working with dogs and their owners we are usually in their homes. I think it is uncomfortable for my clients to have me filming them in their homes so this is why you will not find video here.
If you are curious about my work please go on Google or Yelp. My reviews speak for themself.
Thank you
