Don't be caught without critical safety equipment on the water. Conditions can change rapidly on Idaho's waterways. Always wear a life jacket, file a float plan, and consider carrying a marine VHF radio and distress signals. It could save your life!

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day weekend! This is another reminder, from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office that the spring runoff is happening and the Kootenai River is coming up with logs and sticks floating down stream. The water is about 48 degrees right now. If you find yourself overboard, remember the 1-10-1 rule. One minute to catch your breath and control your breathing, 10 minutes of meaningful motor skills and then up to one hour before you could be unconscious due to Hypothermia. Use your PFD (Personal Floatation Device), Life jacket.
Over the weekend we had a boating incident near Flemming Creek, on the Kootenai River. Stronger winds and inattention of wakes caused a boat to take on water and capsize. Please keep a lookout for other boaters and pay attention to what the river is doing.
