More AI means More Computer Science 03/10/2026

Now that some time has passed, we want to revisit the topic of how AI is affecting Computer Science (CS) and see if we have changed the view we had in July 2025. AI models have become even more capable than before and upgrades to old models have resulted in major advances. In short, everything still seems to point to AI being the future of software development. Therefore, if AI is writing code, what happens to computer science (CS) as a field of study or as a degree program for hopeful computer programmers?

The 19th ACM international conference on WSDM (web search and data mining) was hosted this year in Boise, ID on February 22-26th. After the successful organization of CIKM 2024, our own Edoardo Serra and Francesca Spezzano are now serving as General Co-Chairs for the conference.

WSDM (pronounced β€œwisdom”) is one of the premier conferences on web-inspired research involving search and data mining. WSDM is a highly selective conference that includes invited talks, as well as refereed full papers. WSDM publishes original, high-quality papers related to search and data mining on the Web and the Social Web, with an emphasis on practical yet principled novel models of search and data mining, algorithm design and analysis, economic implications, and in-depth experimental analysis of accuracy and performance.
