Jaws of Brooklyn: Very entertaining with a comedic stage presence. 🙌

Kokein: Energetic rock band from the Basque Country! We had a cousin on drums, which was awesome! It was wonderful to see another Lete performing at Treefort. 🤘

The 2 Lips: Also very fun whimsical stage presence! They did a great cover of No Doubt! 🎤

Kishi Bashi: Performed Sonderlust cover to cover for its 10th anniversary. The keys player was playing with them for the first time and absolutely killed it! 🎹

I can’t believe I’ve been attending for 10 years now! What was your favorite show of yesterday?

My favorite (and only) Aitxitxa passed away on Monday, June 23rd.

When I needed a new coffee break partner after Rosa Mari (my basque baby sitter) couldn’t be my coffee break partner anymore, my Aitxitxa was the obvious choice! He did spoon feed me coffee as a toddler! ☕️

I’ll never forget his infectious laugh or the time he looked at me in their kitchen and said, ‘you know what Ana Miren? Boy! Amama sure is nice to you! …Everybody likes you, you know that? You bet your life!’ followed by his infectious chuckle.

Or the times when we’d sit out on the swing in their front yard over coffee and he’d tell me stories and about how much he loved my Amama. He said he hoped she would go first so she wouldn’t have to live with the pain of being without him. As a teen, I thought that was so sweet of him.

Obviously, life didn’t turn out that way, but he’ll continue to live on in our stories, memories, and hearts. ❤️

Aitxitxa, we’ll have coffee in heaven again someday and I hope you are running up and down the mountains of the Basque Country in heaven pain free, while eating cherries and listening to the basque accordion music you love so much! ☕️🍒🪗

You are set free now just like the words in Txoria, Txori. “If I had cut [the bird’s] wings, it would’ve been mine, it wouldn’t have gone away, but that way, it would no longer have been a bird, and I loved that bird.’
