What is Form 1099?
It’s a report to your non-employees and the IRS showing how much you paid them during the tax year.

Who needs a 1099?
Anyone you paid more than $600 for services (non-employees like vendors, contractors, or freelancers). This includes individuals, partnerships, LLCs, and estates—but there are some exceptions!

Exceptions include:
✔️ S-Corps & C-Corps (check their W-9 to confirm)
✔️ Payments for merchandise, freight, or storage
✔️ Payments made via credit card or PayPal (these are reported on 1099-K)
✔️ Payments to property managers (but not landlords directly!)
✔️ Lawyers always get a 1099—no exceptions.

Pro Tip: Always collect a W-9 from vendors before making payments. It saves time and headaches later.
