The “bad” runs are the ones we learn the most from 🏃🏻‍♀️✨and today was no exception for me. This morning’s miles were the hardest I’ve run in a long time, and not because of the distance or pace. About a .25 miles into my first interval I knew it was going to be a hard day and almost right away I felt frustrated but then I thought 🤔 what can I learn from this 💭 So here are a few lessons from my run this morning that I hope can also help you on tough days!

1️⃣Be smart about winter running. With how icy and uneven the roads and sidewalks are it was extremely difficult to gain and keep momentum, never mind be on the lookout for cars. I hate the treadmill as much as anyone but today would’ve been a good day to take the workout indoors. Shoutout to my husband for reminding me to put on my yak tracks even while he was still asleep lol. Next time though, you’ll catch me on the tread.

2️⃣You don’t always HAVE to listen to your watch, crazy I know 🤪. When you’re not feeling it, adjust! As you get to know yourself better as a runner, you’ll know what certain paces are supposed to feel like and sometimes running by effort or feel is the way to go. So today I adjusted my expectations for my run. One of my intervals was 40 seconds off my pace and that’s just how it goes sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️

3️⃣Don’t skip your recovery! 😴🙆🏻‍♀️. My legs still felt heavy and tired from my hill workout on Monday, strength training right after, and my easy run yesterday. I did almost no foam rolling or stretching until last night 🙄. My sleep and nutrition were good but my muscles were still super sore, not great when going into your workout… Lesson Learned! 🫡

Still riding yesterday’s high. Just the funnest day with some of my favorite people💛💙🦄

The crowds were even more amazing than I thought they would be!! I don’t know why I thought I would need music/headphones, never even turned them on!

The course was gritty and challenging but I felt strong all throughout. Thank you for your amazing coaching and guidance for how to best tackle this course, I trusted my training and it didn’t fail me.

HUGE shout out and thank you to my friends and family for all of the support not just yesterday but through the many months and even years of training. Could not have done it without you all!! 🫶🫶🫶
