Around 70% of the world's cobalt is extracted in the DRC. Yet, only about 3% is processed locally. These two figures highlight one of the greatest economic challenges of our time.
As the world accelerates the energy transition, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has a unique opportunity to move beyond raw mineral exports and build a competitive value-added industry.
Local processing is no longer an option, it is a strategic imperative.

Far from our headquarters in Boston, an eight-member delegation comprising representatives of Congo Investment Group™️ and our technical partners recently conducted a joint field visit to the Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) concession in Lualaba Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, ahead of the commencement of our mining services operations.
After traveling approximately 460 kilometers from Lubumbashi, the delegation carried out site familiarization activities, operational planning, technical coordination, and field assessments to support a safe and well-prepared mobilization.
At CIG, we believe successful ex*****on begins well before mobilization. It is driven by rigorous planning, close coordination with trusted partners, disciplined risk management, and a strong presence on the ground.

Beyond copper and cobalt, tungsten could become the next strategic mineral attracting increased U.S. investment. The announcement of a non-binding memorandum of understanding between Virtus Minerals and Kennametal regarding the PE 1776 mining license reflects a broader trend: the growing diversification of global interest in the Democratic Republic of Congo's critical mineral resources. Although the transaction remains at a preliminary stage, the signal is worth watching.
