“When Travis Dahlke approached me about creating this soundtrack, he was very open to letting me have the freedom to interpret the themes and moods of each collection, but one phrase that came up frequently was “beach goth.” There are definite moments of that with the distorted bass kicking off the EP as synth foams rise and fall, or the slow dirge of drums and chopped guitars at the close. But a soundtrack for a book is difficult because there are no visuals or pacing to work off of. I thought it best to read through all the stories and write down as many things related to the sounds and environment - whether that be the very frequent beach locations or a dumpster fire. Anything that could be used in the compositions to call back to the stories, but also as accompaniment to the instrumentation.
