It’s easy to get lost in all the fun facts of Hair extensions with all of the different methods out there. There will come a point where you finally find what method(s) you love most and you will stick to those only.

Picking 1-3 methods gives you the chance to perfect the method and begin to charge accordingly. Taking on too many methods can cause you to loose focus and feel uncertain about your expertise. Take the time to practice (on a human or mannequin) and really pick which methods you enjoy most & try your best to stick to them.

I remember when I first began offering extensions I offered everything. Braids, I-tip, U-tip, Sew ins, tape-ins.
I discovered that my hands couldn’t handle the braiding. U-tips we’re awesome and I offered them as a hybrid style but I liked I-tip better so I spoke about I-tips. I offered Natural beaded wefts & Tapes.

In the end I stopped offering two and stuck with 3 method and I was able to focus and perfect them.

— I love the I-tip method so much for the simple fact that there is no glue or chemicals needed to apply them. Do you offer extensions now? If so what is your go-to method?

Day 2 — 30 days of hair extensions

So it’s easy to get tricked in the hair extensions industry because it is after all valued at over 6 billion dollars.

There are people out here trying to get your money and give you cheap stuff so it is SO Important to know where your hair is coming from by asking all the right questions and doing your research. (Even then, starting off you can still get scammed) it’s happened to me and it’s no fun and can be very expensive.

It sucks but if you are in the process of starting your own hair extensions business, or you are wanting to purchase hair wholesale to supply your guests… or even if you are recommending people to buy the hair… you need to understand that the possibility to get hair that is not real is there.

Here’s 3 things you can do to test the hair & make sure you are not getting tricked.

1. The burn test. Cut a loc of the weft and hold a flame to the ends. If the hair melts and bunches up together, then you my friend are working with some synthetic hair. If it burns slow and crumbles into ashes then you are working with real human hair.

2. The flip/flop test. Grab a hold of the weft from weft to ends and push the hair together to see how the hair moves. It it flips and flops quickly then you are working with synthetic hair or mixed. It should move with Grace and naturally.

3. The curl test. Turn your curl iron up to as high as 450🌡 and try and slowly curl a loc. If the hair does not curl or melts then… you are working with synthetic hair or a mix. If it’s 100% human then you will be able to curl the hair with no problem and with water, the hair will return back to its natural state.

// synthetic hair and mix’s have their purpose in the industry, but if you are expecting 100% human hair… and you are not sure what your working with then you absolutely will find out using one or all of these tests.
