i used to really love itunes. not apple music !! just good old fashioned itunes. i especially loved when artists released a preorder for their album, and you could go through the tracklist song by song listening to 30 second previews.
the first album i really remember the rollout for was The Midsummer Station by Owl City. despite being a diehard fan for at least a couple years at that point, i’d yet to witness the excitement and anticipation that comes with counting down the days to a records release.
i distinctly remember being 12 years old and listening to those 30 second previews over and and over again- something that became somewhat of a ritual for albums that would come out after. so much so that when the songs actually arrived, the 30 seconds i’d already memorized felt like entire songs in themselves.
the music industry has changed a lot in the 14 years since then. sometimes we’ll get a few teases of songs, sometimes just a lead single, sometimes nothing at all prior to the full album. this ritualistic practice of mine is frozen in a very unique period of time- semi post physical media, pre streaming- the time period that made me who i am as a creative and as a human being :’)
my debut album comes out later this year and i’m no where near ready to formally announce it, but i’m excited to bring you on this journey with me and share my process with all of you :’) thank you for listening to tracks 1-6, here’s a glimpse at 7-16
