An era at Patek Philippe has sadly come to an end.

Philippe Stern, President of Patek Philippe from 1993 to 2009 and one of the most influential figures in modern watchmaking, has passed away.

His tenure coincided with what many collectors now consider a golden age for the manufacture.

The Aquanaut.
The 5004.
The 5970.
The 5002 Sky Moon Tourbillon.
The 3939.

These weren't just great watches - they were benchmarks by which entire categories of watchmaking were judged.

Beyond the watches themselves, Philippe Stern helped shape the modern Patek Philippe as we know it. He centralized production, founded the Patek Philippe Museum, and established the Patek Philippe Seal, all while preserving the independence and long-term vision that define the brand today.

At a time when much of the industry chased trends, Stern doubled down on complications, craftsmanship, and continuity. The result was a generation of watches that collectors still chase decades later.

Few individuals have left a larger mark on modern horology.

Rest in peace, Mr. Stern. Thank you for the watches.

Could you identify this watch while blindfolded?

Taylor hands Zack an H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Flying Hours and gives him one clue: "It's an independent."

Zack's pretty stumped but guesses Laurent Ferrier. And to be fair? He's in the right neighborhood.

Both brands are known for understated designs, incredible finishing, and the kind of watchmaking that serious collectors obsess over.

But this one is pure Moser.

The Endeavour Flying Hours pairs Moser's signature Funky Blue fumé dial with a wandering-hours complication, where the hour travels across the dial before jumping to the next position. It's quirky, elegant, and unmistakably independent.

The funny part? Zack immediately knew he was holding something special, even blindfolded.

He just picked the wrong indie!

How close do you think you would have been on this one?
