Meet our launch team!
Matt and Joleen Halstrom: We first felt the call to Boston in 2018. As the Baumann’s began to tell us that they were feeling called to Boston, my wife and I both knew without talking to each other that we were going to be going with them. We spent the next several months praying, and talking to them as our pastor. We first came to visit Boston over Easter in 2019. As we walked the streets praying and feeling our way through this calling, we began to feel like we absolutely had to come.
We started asking God to verify this calling through several tests. We asked Him to call our 5 children to Boston as well as us, as we felt it was important to include them in the decision process. When we told them how we were feeling called to Boston, we asked them all to pray about what they felt God was telling them. Over the next several days, all 5 came to us separately and said that while they were not happy to leave their friends and the church they grew up in, but felt that God wanted us to go.
In the summer of 2020, we began to feel it was the time. We needed a lot of things to line up if this was going to happen. Right in the middle of the pandemic, I was able to get a job half way across the state that met our prayerful requirements exactly. I arrived in Boston on July 3rd to start my new job, with the family to follow in about a month, after getting a place to live.
We quickly found a house, and as the closing date approached we rented out our home in Minnesota and made our way to Boston, finally!
My family arrived on October 8th and we found a one bedroom hotel room for a week until closing. A couple of days before closing our realtor called to tell us the septic system did not pass inspection and the seller was refusing to fix it. We finally found the right house after two months of living with our family of seven in a hotel room. It was worth every challenge, every thing that God led us through, to bring us here to be part of the great revival that He has for Boston!

Reach Boston

Boston is a very unique city. It’s an academic and political center, home to some of the world’s best universities, such as MIT and Harvard.

It is one of the most historically rich cities in the United States, and much of its history centers around Christianity. The Puritans founded Boston with the hope of establishing a place of religious freedom. They believed that it would be the model Christian city, an example of a Godly society for the entire world to see. They nicknamed it “City on a Hill”.

Many of the people in Boston are known as religious “nones”, people who don’t claim any religious affiliation. Only 3-5% of the population regularly attend a church and only about 1-2% are protestant.

Boston has long been recognized as being at the forefront of every important historical trend in the United States. During its early years, it was a city of great spiritual awakening. Today, however, it has lost those spiritual roots and has now become one of the most unchurched and post-Christian cities in North America.
