Nothing better than finding an new littl' GHOW owlet, alone, in the woods on a special day.
The biggest thrill. The owlets hatch and are light cream color from an egg slightly larger than a chicken's egg... then they "caramelize" (my discription). I'm guessing this one is approximately 25 days old.

Thank you, Essex National Heritage Area, for awarding my photo “Egret Fan Dancers in a Peeking Dawn,” The Grand Prize Winner of the 2024 Essex National Heritage Area Photo Contest. I am honored and thrilled! Thank you to the sponsors especially Hunt's Photo & Video !!!!!
About my photograph...
In the days of old, as seen in a burlesque show, in the enchanting embrace of dawn, when the world is smothered in a buttery light, a spectacle unfolds in the marsh’s heart. A congregation of Great Egrets gathers, their elegant forms gliding over the water’s surface like Fan Dancers.
The first rays of the sun peek above the horizon, painting the sky with hues of melon, illuminating the delicate dance of these magnificent birds. They intricately swirl their angelic plumage that shimmers with the dew that clings like diamonds to the verdant marsh grasses. Each graceful movement creates feather silhouettes while the air thrums, anticipating their performance. With their spindly black legs, striking yellow beaks, and clear golden eyes, the egrets glistened with a jeweled brilliance, embodying the spirit of the wild. In this magical moment, the marsh transforms into a grand stage, alive with the rhythm of nature. With each elegant step, the egrets orchestrate a captivating display of beauty and grace, as if honoring the ancient traditions of “Feather Fan Dancing Bombshell Burlesque.” The world hushes, all eyes drawn to this breathtaking tableau where wildlife and artistry entwine.

The Sturgeon Blue Moon over our Lake Q was an elusive and mysterious sight, almost impossible to find. Throughout a rainy night with lightning strikes, it momentarily peeked out through the clouds, creating a "Moon Sandwich" amidst a rainstorm on its final morning setting on August 20th, 2024. In the photo, rain can be seen streaming down, and the changing seasons are evident as the tops of some trees are starting to turn color. The Sturgeon Blue Moon will illuminate our night skies. While it may resemble a regular full moon, it is rarer than the ones we see almost every month. This is because it's a Blue Moon and also the Sturgeon Moon, the full moon in August. Captured with a Nikon Z9 and 400mm 2.8 lens.
"There are two different definitions for a Blue Moon, and both have to do with fitting the Full Moon into our modern calendar:
A seasonal Blue Moon is the third Full Moon of an astronomical season with four Full Moons.
A monthly Blue Moon is the second Full Moon in a calendar month with two Full Moons.
The Blue Moon on August 19 is a seasonal Blue Moon. After this, you have to wait until May 31, 2026 for a monthly Blue Moon."
