Black History Month was founded 100 years ago, in 1926, by Carter G. Woodson. Woodson, the son of formerly enslaved people, sought to celebrate the accomplishments of Black communities and individuals throughout history. Working toward that goal, Schumann Library has a Black History Month guide that you can access through the link in our bio! In this guide we also have two collections to uplift Black history: Black Freedom Struggle in the US, and Exploring Race in America. Both of these resources contain primary sources created by and addressing Black communities in the US.
Plus: don’t forget to stop by Schumann Library to check out our newest Black History Month display!
