We were delighted to welcome Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, MD, MPH, (center) to our Brighton location. Dr. Ojikutu plays a vital role in the health of Boston residents as Commissioner of Public Health and Executive Director, Boston Public Health Commission. We discussed the needs of the working age families and children that we serve, and how we can improve both their physical health and perception of health. Improving both will take hard work and investment in our core services, like primary medical care, behavioral health, dental, vision, and pharmacy, as well as investment in social services and supports such as health literacy and access to nutritious food.

This week marks Massachusetts Community Health Worker (CHW) week! The CHW role has gained recognition over the past few decades for the important part CHWs play in treating the whole person, including their social needs like food, transportation, housing, and much more. Charles River has an outstanding CHW team – Daniela, Dana, Dieunie, Erick, Jackie, Kim, and Marcos. We thank them for their amazing work for our community this and every week!

We were very happy to host Amit Sachdev, EVP, Chief Patient and External Affairs Officer at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, on Wednesday, June 10. We discussed the challenges that Federally Qualified Health Centers face today and the importance of strengthening the primary medical care and integrated pharmacy services that our patients rely on. We also discussed the role of innovators like Vertex, a Boston-based company, in delivering novel therapies, ensuring access to these therapies, and supporting local communities.
