Dear P3 & P4 Students:

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) is a >10,000 member professional and scientific society that provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources enabling clinical pharmacists to achieve excellence in practice, research and education. ACCP's membership is comprised of practitioners, scientists, educators, administrators, students, residents, fellows, and others committed to excellence in clinical pharmacy.
As part of its annual meeting (Phoenix, AZ October 16-19, 2021), ACCP runs a Clinical Pharmacy Challenge for students in their P3 and P4 years. The Challenge runs Saturday, October 16th through Tuesday, October 19th.

Our Northeastern team won the 2012 Clinical Challenge and made it to the 2013 Quarterfinals!
(see link here: http://www.accp.com/report/?iss=1112&art=2)

The ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge is a team-based competition. Teams of three students will compete against teams from other schools and colleges of pharmacy in a “quiz bowl”–type format. Only one team per institution may enter the national competition.
Preliminary rounds of the national competition will be conducted virtually (via online rounds) in September.

The quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds will be held live at the ACCP Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ. ACCP will monitor events related to COVID-19 going forward and will communicate any additional updates relevant to the 2021 Clinical Pharmacy Challenge schedule and logistics.
Each round will consist of questions offered in the three distinct segments indicated below. Item content used in each segment has been developed and reviewed by an expert panel of clinical pharmacy practitioners and educators.
* Trivia/Lightning
* Clinical Case
* Jeopardy-style

Students are not required to be members of ACCP to participate. Student teams entering the competition need to be willing to commit to travel to Phoenix, AZ in October to compete in the live rounds. Please also take into consideration your class/APPE schedules and whether you will be able to participate in the preliminary rounds on campus from September 9-17 (see full schedule below).

**Should the NU team reach the quarterfinals and be eligible to compete at the ACCP Annual Meeting in Arizona, the Dean’s office has generously offered to provide a travel stipend of $300 per student**

In order to choose NU's team of 3 students, a local competition will be held virtually on Wednesday, June 16 at 6:00 pm ET. The competition should end no later than 7:00 pm.

This local competition consists of an exam that has been developed by ACCP to mimic the structure of the competition. Each member of your team will independently take this exam (electronically) and each team member's score will be averaged together to determine an overall team score. The team with the highest average score will represent NU in the competition. In the event of a tie, the team that had the higher score in 2 out of the 3 sections will be selected to advance to the national preliminary round.

Talk to your classmates over the next few weeks and let us know if you would like to form a team and sit for the local competition exam on Wednesday, June 16 at 6:00 pm ET. Teams must consist of 3 students and all members must participate in the virtual exam.
Please email us by Monday, June 14 at 5:00 pm with the names of your team members that will be competing. Don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. If you would like to compete, but don’t have a team put together, let us know and we will try and connect you with other students.

Prize Structure

Each team member will receive an ACCP gift certificate for $125 and a certificate of recognition. In addition to the above, semifinal teams not advancing to the final round will receive a semifinal team plaque for display at their institution. The second-place team will receive a $750 cash award ($250 to each member) and a commemorative team plaque. The winning team will receive a $1500 cash award ($500 to each member), and each team member will receive a commemorative plaque. A team trophy will be awarded to the winning institution.
*IRS regulations require ACCP to provide a Form 1099 to the winners of $600 or more in cash and complimentary services.
