Making Today Count: What’s on Your Agenda?
We often wake up and immediately shift into “autopilot” mode. We check our emails, pack lunches, and start ticking boxes on a never-ending to-do list. But in the rush to get things done, we sometimes forget to actually live the day we’re in.
Today, I want to pause and ask you: What is truly on your agenda?
Beyond the errands and the meetings, what are the moments that will actually matter when you put your head on the pillow tonight?
Seeking the Meaningful
Not every task is created equal. Some things keep the lights on, but others feed your soul.
What will be meaningful today? Is it a breakthrough at work, a deep conversation with a friend, or finally finishing that book you’ve been eyeing?
What will you genuinely enjoy? Efficiency is great, but joy is essential. Whether it’s the smell of your morning coffee or the playlist you blast in the car, identify one thing you are truly looking forward to.
The Missing Appointment: You
We are world-class at keeping appointments with others, but we’re notorious for canceling on ourselves.
Will you make time for yourself today? Even if it’s just ten minutes of silence, a walk around the block, or a creative hobby, you deserve a slot on your own calendar.
What will be special about today? Every day has a “signature”—a unique sunset, a funny coincidence, or a small win. Don’t let today be just “another Tuesday.” Look for the thing that makes it stand out.
Tips for Finding the Magic in the Mundane
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your schedule, here are three simple ways to reclaim your day:
The “Three-Joy” Rule Before you start your day, name three tiny things you plan to enjoy. It could be the way the sunlight hits your desk or the taste of a specific snack. When you look for joy, you tend to find it.
Audit Your “Musts” Look at your to-do list and ask, “Does this need to happen today, or am I just rushing?” Clear some space. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is leave a gap in your schedule for spontaneity.
Practice “Micro-Savoring” When something good happens—even something small like hitting every green light—stop for five seconds. Take a deep breath and acknowledge it. This resets your nervous system and trains your brain to notice the “special” moments.
What about you? I’d love to hear from you in the comments. What is one thing on your agenda today that is just for you? What are you most excited to experience?
Let’s make today something worth remembering.
