Up Close and Personal
Up Close and Personal is a weekly show playing hand-picked, themed playlists on Wednesdays from 2-4pm, live on WTBU the funkiest freshest bunch around.
06/03/2020
In solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and in spirit of the peaceful protests around the country, Up Close and Personal is dedicating today’s show to the memory of George Floyd and the other countless black and brown lives that pave the streets of America.
In lieu of a regular playlist and commentary, today’s episode will be a reading of “Notes of a Native Son” by James Baldwin, the titular essay from his 1955 collection. DJ SC will present the reading, followed by a small selection of black liberation anthems.
We at Up Close and Personal hope this essay, presented in an easy listening format, helps open your mind to the brilliant criticisms of Mr. Baldwin, one of the greatest essayists in America history. We believe that his words are as relevant today as they were over half a century ago.
Please tune in from 4-6pm EST today, June 3, on wtburadio.org.
