Captain Jose Dos Anjos was recognized at this year’s Gala for his longstanding commitment to CVNA.
A dedicated Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience across diverse healthcare settings, Captain Dos Anjos was honored for his unwavering service and impact. Most recently, he joined the U.S. Army, further demonstrating his commitment to serving others.
Despite his many responsibilities, he remains an active and devoted member of CVNA, consistently joining our Annual Global Health Trips, where he shares his expertise, compassion, and passion for delivering care to communities in need.

Luiciene Fernandes was proudly recognized at our Gala as the 2025–2026 Scholarship Award Recipient.
Born and raised in Cape Verde, Luiciene is currently a junior at Husson University in Maine, where she is pursuing her degree in nursing. Driven by a deep passion for women’s health, she plans to further her education to become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Her ultimate goal is to empower and educate women—both in the United States and in Cape Verde—through compassionate care and advocacy.

Today, we are proud to spotlight our 2025-2026 Scholarship Program award recipients who are pursuing their nursing education in Cape Verde. These dedicated students represent the future of healthcare, and we are honored to support them on their journey to serve their communities.
Fabiane Resende Monteiro (pic 1) is originally from the island of Fogo in Cabo Verde and is a nursing student. She has always had a strong interest in the health field and, as a child, dreamed of becoming a pediatrician. In 2021, she began studying Biological Sciences at the University of Cabo Verde, an experience that contributed to her personal growth and self-discovery. After one year, she decided to redirect her path toward Nursing, a field in which she found a strong sense of identification and purpose. She believes that nursing is a way to demonstrate love, empathy, and a commitment to life, and that education is an opportunity to grow and contribute positively to her community.
Jodelma Raissa Costa Ferreira (pic 2) is originally from Monte Trigo, in Santo Antão, a fishing community. Her pursuit of Nursing is motivated by the goal of acquiring knowledge and skills that will allow her to provide healthcare with quality, humanity, and professionalism. She aspires to become a competent nurse who can contribute to the well-being of people and to the development of healthcare in her community.
