Jorge Landa, DMD, of Kendall Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics in Miami, FL, now offers state-of-the-art LightScalpel CO2 laser procedures for children and adolescents. Some of the many soft-tissue procedures that may be performed with the LightScalpel laser include tongue- and lip-tie releases (frenectomy), gum recontouring (gingivectomy), unerupted tooth exposure, and more.

LightScalpel CO2 laser benefits for patients include minimized bleeding, less swelling and discomfort, reduced risk of infection, shortened procedure time, and smoother recovery. In many cases, procedures are bloodless and require no sutures.

In this clinical video, Bret Christensen, DDS, performs an extensive functional frenuloplasty using a LightScalpel CO2 laser on a patient in her late 60s.

The footage highlights the release of restricted oral tissues and shows how tension in the tongue and floor of the mouth can visibly relax during the procedure. Dr. Christensen also demonstrates the importance of lateral tissue release, an often-overlooked step that can help improve tongue elongation, mobility, and flexibility.
