Engaging climbers and community to protect and preserve climbing areas in the Front Range!

04/11/2026

It’s day 6 of the Stewardship Kickoff Campaign, and today, we’re highlighting two programs: WAG Bags and Advocacy

Almost everyone has had the unfortunate experience of finding a gross present left under a rock (or out in the open) at a crag. The BCC’s Human Waste Program is focused on making sure you never have to experience that again. Every year, we supply approximately 3,000 WAG Bags for free to the Front Range community via our 16 trailside WAG bag stations. WAG Bags are your best friend when the coffee kicks in at the wrong time, and, just like your shoes, crash pad, or rope, they should be an essential part of your climbing kit! Human waste mars our beautiful crags, pollutes our watersheds, and can jeopardize access if land managers deem it too problematic!

Speaking of land managers, did you know the BCC works with more than nine different land management entities to protect and expand climbing access? Through our stewardship work, formal partnership agreements, and advocating for the best interests of climbers at policy planning meetings, the BCC champions the climbing community’s ability to continue climbing at the places we love. Over the years, this deep rapport-building work has led to reopening of new climbing development in multiple places, collaborations to create new crags and new access, and more focused seasonal closures that protect sensitive wildlife and allow for longer climbing seasons where appropriate.

Help support clean and accessible crags by donating to our Stewardship Kickoff Campaign today!
