How to Stay Safe in Colorado’s Backcountry When Hiking This Summer🌲🥾
Colorado’s backcountry is one of the best places to make summer memories with your family!
However, preparation goes a long way, know before you go. ☀️⛰️

• Choose a trail that matches your family’s experience, and be sure your youngest and oldest will enjoy the hike.
• Check the weather the night before and before you leave, Colorado’s weather usually changes.
• Head out early so you can be back before our afternoon showers, this Colorado girl always expects them.

Pack the essentials!
• Fully charged phone or GPS (a charger is helpful as well)
• Plenty of water (everyone brings their own water bottle in our family)
• Snacks (we usually make gorp with nuts, dried fruit and M&Ms)
• Use your sunscreen before heading out
• Wear a hat
• Layers (a rain poncho, light sweater)

Leave No Trace!
• Stay on the marked trail!
• Pack out your trash and pick up anything you bring in!

✔️ We always let someone know our plans if our hike is longer than a few hours or if we are heading to a trail known to be less popular.
✔️ Remember to keep an eye on kids and pets so everyone stays together and has fun. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
✔️ Respect our mountains! Give wildlife space, take breaks, and turn around if conditions change.
