Enjoy a fun night out and support the talented students of Mueller Park Jr. High as they present Something Rotten! running April 8–11.

I'm continually impressed by the incredible dedication of our students, teachers, and parent volunteers. Mueller Park consistently delivers outstanding productions, and this show is sure to be no exception.

I’ll be there tonight and would love to see you there as well!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Spring Break! 🌸

My senior daughter and I are spending this week touring college campuses, a milestone moment that has me feeling incredibly grateful. Watching her and her twin brother, prepare for the next chapter of their lives is a reminder of just how much great educators shape our kids' futures.

We spotted this sign in the airport and had to stop for a photo: "Kids have potential. Teachers unlock it."

That says it all. To every teacher in the Davis School District, thank you for the dedication, care, and hard work you pour into our students every single day. The impact you make lasts a lifetime. 💙

🌟 Exciting Day at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art! 🌟

Today, I had the opportunity to join the 6th grade classes from Muir Elementary- Davis on a memorable field trip to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

The students engaged with the exhibits in a hands-on way, documenting their thoughts and reflections in their sketchbooks. It was inspiring to witness their curiosity and creativity as they explored and interacted with the art!

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers and amazing parent volunteers for making this experience possible. Your support helps cultivate our students' love for learning and the arts! 🎨✏️

Yesterday I had the chance to spend some time at the Utah Capitol with students from across the state helping students learn about women in Utah history.

The event was hosted by Better Days 2020 an organization that works to share the stories of Utah women who helped shape our communities and our state. It was fun to see students exploring these stories and making connections to the present.

One of my favorite parts of the day was visiting with students from South Davis Junior High School who are part of the Davis Enhanced Education Program (DEEP). I always love seeing Davis School District students out learning and asking thoughtful questions.

If you’re a teacher (or a parent or student), Better Days has some fantastic classroom resources and lesson plans about Utah women’s history:

It was a great reminder that learning history isn’t just about the past, it helps students see how individuals can make a real difference in their communities today.

Let’s talk about Parent-Teacher Conferences.

A few weeks ago, a junior high teacher shared a video with me from their school’s conference night. Unfortunately, only a small number of parents attended.

Parent-Teacher conferences are one of the most valuable opportunities we have to strengthen the connection between home and school. They give parents insight into what’s happening in the classroom and provide a chance to partner with teachers to better support each student’s success.

When families and educators work together, students benefit. 💙

Parents, What encourages you to attend conferences? What makes it difficult?

Teachers, What have you seen that helps make conferences more meaningful and well attended?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

School Visit: Viewmont High School

I had the opportunity to visit classes at Viewmont High School. I left so impressed by the high level of teaching and student engagement happening in our schools every day.

In a CE Chemistry class, students were preparing to share data from hands-on experiments with their peers. They demonstrated real learning, collaboration, and meaningful application of concepts.

In a very full math classroom, I watched a dedicated teacher pull up a folding stool and sit beside individual students to provide one-on-one support. That simple act said so much about his commitment and care.

In Child Development, the teacher reviewed material by orally administering a quiz by asking questions while students held up letter responses. It was a quick, effective way to assess understanding and ensure everyone was on track.

And in Intro to Art, I was truly astounded by the level of creativity and talent on display. The quality of student work was remarkable.

We are so fortunate to have educators who are skilled, innovative, and deeply invested in their students. Grateful for the incredible things happening in Davis classrooms every day. 💙

Nothing is more important than the safety of our students and staff. I’m grateful every day for the care, preparation, and collaboration that go into protecting our school communities. 💙

I had the opportunity to participate in a lockdown drill at Woods Cross High School alongside the Woods Cross Police Department. While I wish these drills weren’t necessary, I’m thankful for the professionalism and coordination I witnessed.

I’m deeply grateful for the thoughtful leadership in our district, especially Blake Haycock, our District Security Coordinator, for his knowledgeable and steady guidance.

And to our local police departments: thank you for your strong partnership with our schools. You know our campuses. You know our administrators. You are prepared to respond and support when it matters most.

I love seeing events like this that bring together students, families, and staff in such a meaningful and unifying way.

Our Dual Language Immersion program continues to open doors for all Muir Elementary- Davis students. Students are growing not just academically, but alao culturally. Thank you to the incredible teachers, interns, and staff who make these experiences possible. It truly takes a community. 🌏❤️

When I was 9, the Summer Olympics came to Los Angeles where I grew up. We celwbrated and tried our best at sports. Running is still not my favorite thing. My 3rd-grade teacher chose my drawing of a hand holding the Olympic torch 🔥 to hang up on the bulletin board. Later I watched the torch run past on its way to the Rose Bowl. That memory still inspires me. 🏅

I’ve loved watching the Olympics again this year, how they bring the world together 🌍 and inspire the best in all of us.

This week, I felt that same magic at the Kindergarten Olympics at Adelaide Elementary. Ms. Jenkins created a fun day of puck shooting 🏒, skeleton rolking sliders 🛷, foam plate “ice skating” ⛸️, fisbee curling, and basket bobsled fun 🥇.

Just like the Olympics, great teachers inspire the best in their students, encouraging them to dream big, try hard things, and discover their own strengths.

I’m so grateful for the creativity and heart our educators bring to our schools every day. 💙
