🐾 A Heartfelt Reality of Rescue 🐾
Earlier today, we shared a post featuring some adorable puppies and a simple request for help with puppy food. In the 10 hours since it was posted, it has been shared 21 times. During that same time, we received $6 in donations on Facebook.
Six dollars
Today, a large bag of puppy food costs around $75, and a case of canned food costs approximately $35. While every dollar is appreciated, the reality is that the needs of rescue often far exceed the support we receive.
We know we are not a large rescue. We don't have millions of followers or a massive audience. Most of the people who follow us care deeply about animals, and we are grateful for every share, comment, and word of encouragement. Those gestures help us reach more people and give our dogs a chance to be seen.
But rescue is difficult.
Adoptions are slower than they once were. Dogs continue to be returned. Every day, we receive calls asking us to take in animals that have nowhere else to go. Meanwhile, the dogs already in our care still need food, shelter, medical care, vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and daily love and attention—sometimes for weeks, months, or even years.
This post is not intended to ask for sympathy. It is not meant to make anyone feel guilty. It is simply a glimpse into the reality that rescues and shelters face every single day.
There are moments that restore our faith completely—a generous donation, a successful adoption, a supporter who shows up again and again when we need them most. Those moments often bring us to tears and remind us why we keep going.
But the truth is that love alone doesn't fill food bowls.
If each of those 21 shares had been accompanied by a $5 donation, it would have covered a large bag of puppy food and nearly an entire case of canned food. Small contributions, when combined, can make an enormous difference.
