It's disheartening to witness the constant criticism moms face when they explore this option to improve their family's circumstances. The notion that sleep training is synonymous with the outdated "Cry-it-out" method is nothing more than an ancient belief. It's time to put an end to the shaming and embrace a more modern perspective.
Consolidated night sleep is crucial for our little ones' cognitive development, and every mom deserves the chance to create a harmonious sleep routine. It's important to recognize that gentle sleep coaches and sleep trainers share the same goal and strategies in their toolbox. Rather than bashing one another, let's unite and redefine our approach.
No one can promise a magical, tear-free solution to fostering independent sleepers. Instead, let's envision sleep training as an umbrella of techniques that can be tailored to meet the specific needs and parenting styles of individual families. Sleep crutches are defined as anything a baby or toddler needs to fall asleep at the onset of a nap or night. While there’s absolutely NOTHING WRONG with feeding, rocking, holding or bouncing your child to sleep, you can expect to be awake between 1-4 am to provide that same assistance.

When your baby is old enough and your both feeling ready, it may be time to drop some of these habits. You can gradually take small, but effective steps in teaching your child to self soothe. In fact, your child can begin to develop positive sleep associations as early as the newborn stage. A solid bedtime routine, white noise, your presence, a sleep sack, or even a book or lullaby are things that can easily signal that sleep is near and will help get them to a calm and secure place before bed.
