Last night I sat at a table in Natick and read from my book to a room full of people who showed up for me.

I’m still floating.

Ten Trees Books gathered a handful of local authors for a Pride Month showcase, and I got to introduce Fighting for Their Lives, read a few pages, and say the thing I most want every parent to hear: you are not alone, and your child’s truth is not up for debate.

Then I looked up and saw the room. Friends from church. New friends from the Natick Moms Business Group (thank you Diana!). Lana and Irina, flowers in hand. People I love and people I’d just met, all there for this story.

I got a little emotional. I’m not going to pretend I didn’t.

The person who made all of this possible was standing in the back of the room. That was my son, Daniel. The bravest, most amazing person I know

Twelve copies went home with people last night. A few are still on the shelf at Ten Trees if you missed it.

And this shirt? “Local Pride is My Pride,” made by .me.to.queer.spaces up in New Hampshire and sent to me through Lana. Local pride is my pride too.
