In honor of the New York Knicks 2026 championship win, we’re taking it back to 1973 when they brought their second NBA title to New York City.

Fifty three years ago, New Yorkers paid their subway and bus fare with 35 cent tokens. The newest subway cars were the R44 models, introduced between 1971 and 1973 to replace the aging R1-9 series.

The TWU held its 14th Constitutional Convention that year, with International President Matthew Guinan at the helm, and Daniel Gilmartin the Local 100 President.

Today, we celebrate our third championship title. Let’s go Knicks!
