Elektron Tonverk is an advanced electronic instrument engineered for deep sound design and complex sequencing. Its core architecture is built around eight primary audio tracks, each capable of hosting one of four specialized machines: the Single Player for polyphonic WAV playback and looping, the Multi Player for handling multisampled instruments, the powerful Subtrack machine which adds eight monophonic, multi-timbral synths per track, and a dedicated MIDI machine for external control. This modularity provides diverse solutions for precise sound capture and processing.

The system is expanded by eight additional tracks for buses, sends, and the final mix, facilitating extensive internal and external routing. Every one of the 16 tracks features its own 256-step sequencer, coupled with a massive list of FX and extensive modulation capabilities. Professional features like an integrated Recorder and an Auto Sampler for creating multisampled instruments round out a platform designed for relentless technical exploration and intricate music production.
