In 1995, Housing Works led a landmark federal class action that affirmed a critical truth: people with disabilities have the right to reasonable accommodations to access public benefits. That case forced New York City to be accountable—establishing case management standards, improving application timelines, and requiring public reporting to City Council.
36 years after the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed on July 26, 1990, its impact is still shaping lives and systems. , millions of people continue to access the care, housing, and support they deserve.
