It’s been another incredible week in the big apple 🍎 !

Oh and if you’re wondering (like I was) 👇🏼

The nickname “The Big Apple” for New York City didn’t originally have anything to do with apples growing there.

The most widely accepted origin comes from the 1920s horse-racing world. A sports journalist named John J. Fitz Gerald heard stable hands in New Orleans refer to New York’s prestigious racetracks as “the big apple”—meaning the biggest and most desirable prize in horse racing. He started using the term in his newspaper column, and it caught on.

Later, in the 1930s and 1940s, jazz musicians adopted “The Big Apple” to mean New York - the place with the biggest opportunities and most important clubs. By the 1970s, New York tourism officials revived the nickname in a marketing campaign, and it became famous worldwide.

So the meaning evolved into:

🍎 The Big Apple = the biggest prize, the place where everyone wants to make it.

That’s why you’ll often hear people say that if you can succeed in New York, you can succeed anywhere.

Learn something new everyday 🙃
