Using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to bring you Beauty at Ease. By Sandra Lanshin Chiu, L.Ac.
I think this is a lovely MD, and I really appreciate her work here and how it teaches us how Botox creates facial lifting and even adds youthful volume. I also appreciate that she shows the extent of the paralysis it produces, so people like me - who are too scared to shut off the movement of functional muscles in the neck and jaw- can make an informed choice.
I don’t think anyone is better, right, or wrong for whatever choice they make for their face and body. As a TCM practitioner, I personally would find it very difficult to paralyze muscles in my body - especially in the neck. Because the body functions as one whole system, when one muscle is turned off, another steps in to compensate. The body is always trying to restore balance when one area loses function.
So if you’re like me, this video is for you. While Gua Sha may not offer the dramatic lift that Botox does, it does improve the health of your tissues and skin, while creating a meaningful degree of lift, volume, and sculpting that makes my patients and students very happy with what they’re able to accomplish without the need for paralysis.
The tradeoff is that you do need to be consistent. Even just 5 minutes a day can make a big difference.
