Writing across languages means writing across sound, the sounds of different languages. Language is born in sound.
In my class this April, I'll be teaching in large part based on the Ukrainian concept of милозвучність or what's pleasing to the ear. Ukrainian brings this idea consciously forward so that you base what you say or write on what sounds pleasing.
We do it in English too, but we aren't usually conscious of it. My experience translating from Ukrainian has helped me to design my teaching to think about this process.
There are other things that English is really good at, such as time. We'll discuss techniques such as Richard Powers' use of time-lapse photography as narrative in his novel *The Overstory*.
I hope you or somebody you know can join me in April. Link in the comments.
