SBIDC is thrilled to honor FABSCRAP at Sunset Swing!

FABSCRAP is a textile recycling non-profit that has pioneered a system to recycle and reuse fabric waste, creating an accessible materials resource for creative communities while reducing the fashion industry’s impact on the planet. Since its launch in 2016, FABSCRAP has saved over 1 million pounds of fabric from landfill, the CO2-reducing equivalent of planting 110,000 trees.

With locations at the Brooklyn Army Terminal as well as Philadelphia, FABSCRAP's recycling service collects fabric excess from commercial brands across the Northeast region. These materials are then sorted for recycling or reuse at the FABSCRAP warehouses. Any small scraps or odd ends are downcycled into shoddy which then becomes various forms of industrial insulation. Any of the larger cuttings or yardage received are separated for reuse, and are made available to the public to shop at thrift store pricing for reuse. FABSCRAP is also passionate about education and devotes hours each month to giving classroom and corporate presentations, speaking on panels, and giving informational interviews about textile waste. Education includes digital workshops as well, since FABSCRAP believes it is equally important to teach skills and techniques required to upcycle, mend, and create with textile waste. FABSCRAP is also a great employer and has worked with SBIDC to hire local residents in quality jobs.

Come celebrate FABSCRAP's accomplishments at Sunset Swing! Get your tickets at the link in our bio!
