Lady Bits

The lyrics of Fever Flying speak to the tension that we create while retracing our steps in search of lost joy, and to the force we feel from the momentum when we let go.

We seek to self-alienate in order to avoid annihilation (lying face down in the water), whether this means building protective barriers around our authentic selves (looks like dying, feels like being born) or putting our bodies in a hydro tank and getting shot into space either literally or metaphorically (leaving orbit). Disorientation (fever flying) is sometimes the only way to heal (new perspective), but we risk leaving something behind (there’s no landing now) when we find what we’ve been seeking (no coming home).
In the chorus, I was inspired not by any one work of science fiction, but by the fact that so much of it exists, and that the same settings can evoke both terror and transcendent delight. - Emma
