The couple times I’ve passed by this persons home in the west village, I’ve wished to see them there to start up a conversation and to know the ruminations in their head and how they perceive the world but I never have had privilege to see them and am left to wonder.⁣

Obviously if living on the street, one assumes that they have met hard times in life currently. But the story this home may tell says something different about the spirit of this person having not yet thankfully been broken. His/her inherent dignity still lives on in them. That can be inferred by how even with the little they have, they keep it clean and tidy and self respecting.⁣

I recall reading a book called “unbroken: A War War II story of survival” and this quote really jumped out at me when I saw this persons home.⁣

I hope to one day see this person and to possibly sit and whisper about both our lives and learn from each other. In the meantime, them, and you and I keep exuding human dignity . The world needs it more today then ever. @ West Village

Wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of a giant of a New Yorker. So much so that his ideology and message was known worldwide without ever needing to know him- I ❤️ NY.⁣

Milton Glazer is safe to say one of the greatest graphic designers that has ever lived and has been the inspiration and genius behind many posters of worldwide acclaim and again- unless you really dig deep, you would never know it was him that designed them such as the logo as well & after listening to many of his interviews-he didn’t care much to be acknowledged. He just wanted to produce great work that inspired and connected people- so much so that he was working until his death last Friday at the tender age of 91 years old.⁣

Regarding his most famous work- the “I ❤️ NY logo, an article written by great art critic of the summed up his inspiration.⁣

“The city was crime-ridden and trash-strewn; President Ford had told us to drop dead; the state’s tourism bureau knew it had an uphill climb. In the back of a taxi, Mr. Glaser scrawled a preliminary sketch for a new civic logo on the outside of a torn envelope, its four characters not yet resolved into its familiar square. In today’s sanitized Big Apple, the initial accomplishment of Mr. Glaser’s campaign has been obscured; this was a design that did not just tell tourists we were open for business, but convinced the citizens of a near-bankrupt metropolis to hold their heads high.” ⁣

Really loved reading aforementioned paragraph as the NY we all ❤️ is downtrodden in so many ways currently but it’s apropos that even on his passing, Mr. Glaser message of New Yorkers holding their heads high and our eventual bounce back still gives us hope. Keep our heads high NYC. ⁣

Our NYC looks not as desirable, battered and tattered right now but you don’t 🖤 someone or something only when it’s pretty and during good times- but especially more so when it’s broken and undesirable and when NYC bounces back- we’ll know that during good times and bad like Milton Glaser said - I ❤️ NY.⁣
