I would like to recognize Sergeant Caravello and Police Officer Flashner for their outstanding police work, professionalism, and determination, which directly resulted in the apprehension of a violent wanted individual. While investigating a reported petit larceny, Sergeant Caravello and Police Officer Flashner attempted to stop the suspect for questioning. Rather than comply with lawful orders, the individual fled on foot, prompting the officers to immediately pursue the suspect. After a foot pursuit, the officers successfully apprehended the individual. Subsequent investigation revealed that the individual had been wanted out of Manhattan for 2 violent offenses, including armed robbery and a separate violent unprovoked hate crime assault. As a direct result of Sergeant Caravello’s and Police Officer Flashner’s vigilance, persistence, and decisive actions, a dangerous offender was taken into custody and two violent felony investigations were successfully closed. Their actions exemplify proactive policing, sound tactics, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. Sergeant Caravello and Police Officer Flashner demonstrated courage, professionalism, and dedication to duty, reflecting great credit upon themselves, the command, and the New York City Police Department.
