Happy Earth Day! 🌍

What is fast fashion?

Fast fashion is inexpensive clothing that is mass produced to meet consumer demands. Although it is convenient for our bank account it is important to recognize the environmental costs. The fashion industry contributes to water pollution, use of toxic chemical and dyes, and use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions.

The fashion industry is not only the second biggest polluter of our planet behind the oil industry, but also one of the biggest influences encouraging the latest micro trends. When we buy to follow trends, we are stuck in a cycle of never ending spending, purchasing products we don’t really love, and we end up hurting our planet! So here are a few different ways to actively minimize your carbon footprint:

1. Quality check before you buy

Check the tag and look for biodegradable materials, check seams, tug at stitching

2. Purchase from sustainable and ethical brands
3. Consider buying from a second hand store at least once a month! Here at Mae we are always welcoming new faces!
4. Learn how to repair your own clothing
5. Ask yourself if you really need an item before purchasing! Be sure that you really love the item and will make great use out of it.

This post is just to inform and raise awareness about how the fashion industry can do better.
