🎒 Baggage vs Luggage 🧳

I was listening to a podcast the other day and first heard the interviewee talk about the concept of “Baggage vs. Luggage”. It's interesting to me because there is an immediate positive / negative association on both words:

🎒Baggage = something that's weighing you down or follows you wherever you go, that you can't seem to shake
🧳Luggage = something you keep close to you, packed with fun items for a trip.

"She's got a lot of baggage" vs. "She's got a lot of luggage" are almost 2 completely different meanings in the American way of speaking.

What if we started thinking about all of our past mistakes and errors as “luggage” instead of “baggage”? What if we were able to wear those lessons learned confidently like a badge of honor instead of hiding them and scared of being "found out" or "a failure"?

This is what I want to teach people. It's ok to be vulnerable. Teach others about your missteps with the intent on showcasing what you've taken from those experiences. No one is perfect so why are we all trying so hard to be? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Grab your "luggage" and get in that next interview. Need help navigating? Send me a note or schedule a call with me. I'll help you craft the perfect message for the hiring team when they interview with you.

💼 Don’t Overlook Soft Skills on Your Resume! 💼

Soft skills — think leadership, adaptability and teamwork — are just as essential as technical skills in today’s workplace. Here’s how to make them shine on your resume:

➡️ Use Concrete Examples: Show, don’t tell. Instead of “I’m adaptable,” try “Led my team through a major company transition, maintaining productivity and morale.”
➡️ Highlight Team Successes: Showcase your collaborative wins, like “Worked cross-functionally to reduce project time by 15%.” This demonstrates both teamwork and results!
➡️ Tailor to the Role: Identify which soft skills are key to the job and integrate examples that highlight those skills. Show that you’re the right fit both technically and personally.

Soft skills are foundational to continued growth for any professional.
