Laura For Glynn
Independent Candidate for Glynn County Commissioner At Large - Post 2
03/13/2026
Glynn County, we have another strong independent candidate this election season!
If you live in District 4, Rachael Thompson is running to represent you on the Board of Education. She’s hosting a volunteer convening on 24 March - let’s help her get the signatures she needs to get on the ballot! 💪

Did you know that, in Georgia, independent candidates don’t automatically appear on the ballot? Instead, they must submit a nomination petition signed by registered voters. For most offices, the required signatures equal 5% of the registered voters eligible to vote for that office in the last election. Signatures must be collected within a 180-day window and filed with the state by the summer deadline to qualify for the general election ballot.

Two big takeaways from the 2024 election for me:
1. Nationally, more voters than ever identify as independent.
2. In Glynn County, voters are increasingly withholding their vote from candidates who don't earn it - even when the race is unopposed.
---
Reuters reports that the percentage of voters identifying as independent has risen from 26% in 2020 to 34% in 2024. (34% identify as Republican, 32% identify as Democrat.) Article is here: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/first-us-independent-turnout-tops-democrats-ties-republicans-edison-research-2024-11-06/
In Glynn County, we had 11 county-wide races on our ballot that were unopposed. 44,186 total ballots were cast. On average, the unopposed candidates received 34,696 votes - this means that 22% of voters left these unopposed races blank. Mr. Rafolski received 34,205 - the lowest number of all 11 unopposed county-wide races.

➡️ Register by October 7th, to vote in the November 5th election!
Check your voter registration at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov ⬅️
My campaign collected 3600+ petition signatures from folks who thought they were registered to vote in Glynn County. Most of them were, but 236 were not.
Even though I won’t be on the ballot, I'm committed to following up with these 236 folks before October 7th, to help them register to vote in Glynn County. So don't be surprised if someone from my campaign or a local nonprofit partner gives you a call, shoots you a text, or knocks on your door again!
Your vote is important, because your voice is important. ✊

If you're following this page, you probably care about finding real solutions to the housing crises affecting Glynn County: a lack of affordable housing, soaring housing insecurity, and barriers to homeownership.
Under One Roof is a new initiative tackling one of those specifically: housing insecurity. I love seeing this kind of creative partnership between our local heavy philanthropy hitters (Sea Island and the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation) and existing nonprofits that are already efficiently and effectively fighting this persistent quality of life issue for our neighbors (Saved by Grace and Golden Isles Veterans Village). Here's how you can help:
1) Go to www.underoneroofglynn.com and click "Join the List" to show your support and stay updated. Consider donating to the fund, if you're able.
2) Email the Glynn County Board of Commissioners and ask them to approve the zoning change that Saved by Grace is seeking, and which the Mainland Planning Commission already approved back in June. You can reach them at: [email protected].

"I'm very disappointed," she said. "I feel like hundreds of Glynn County voters legitimately signed my petition. I stood there and watched them sign it. Their signatures were not counted and now they won't have a choice on their ballot in November."

Thank you for your support. 🙏
This campaign is over, but the work is not. You can count on that. 💪

For the first time in my campaign, I will NOT be at First Friday tonight - I’ll be busy preparing to appeal the Board of Election’s decision to deny my petition. 💪
But it looks like a great evening to be out there! Partly cloudy and temps in the high 80s, plenty of fun stuff to do, good food to eat, and cool people to meet. 😎 Y’all have fun! ✌️❤️

Glynn election board claims candidate's signatures not valid - The Current Glynn County's election board decided that a petition submitted by independent candidate Laura Khurana had invalid signatures. Khurana says she plans to challenge the decision.

Thank you for your patience over the last 3 weeks, as we all waited for the Board of Elections to review my petition to get on the ballot in November.
I heard yesterday that the petition has been denied. This is extremely disappointing, and I plan to appeal.
See below for more details, and thank you for your support so far.
It's not over yet. ❤️

I love this picture - this is the face of a woman who does not have time for games.
Minimal make-up, wash-and-go hair with grey streaks woven throughout, t-shirt and shorts and sandals.
A woman who turns 40 next week, is raising two daughters and knocking her career out of the park. Who just heard today that her research was accepted at a scientific conference in Copenhagen in September - but who’ll have to tag a colleague to present it for her, because she already committed to another conflicting conference in Philly. 🙃
A woman who is tired of the partisan division in her community, and tired of the same types of local candidates running with little or no opposition year after year, and tired of them showing no urgency to address the deep, persistent disparities in social, economic, health, and education outcomes across our county. A woman who recognized that one way to address that is to run the campaign that she wished other candidates would run, and be the public servant she wished her elected officials would be - so that’s what she’s doing.
This woman asked the County Board of Commissioners last month to move the public comment period back to the beginning of their agenda, and presented them with data showing how the current policy (p***c comments at the end) decreases public participation in their meetings by over 60%. (So far it’s fallen on deaf ears - they haven’t changed this policy.)
This photo is probably from the exact moment on Monday that she listened to two men who are well-established in Glynn County politics and well-connected to the County Board of Commissioners… complain to the Board of Elections about having to wait until the end of their meeting to give public comment. You can’t make this stuff up. 🤦♀️
This is the face of a woman who is fueled by love for her community, unafraid to shake up the status quo, and unwavering in her commitment to move this county toward progress for everyone. She has a strong work ethic, a high-functioning capacity to get ✔️ things ✔️ done ✔️ , a million things on her mind and is clearly unconcerned with presenting a nice, socially acceptable facial expression to the world. 😉
I love this picture, because it’s pretty quintessentially me. Next week I’m either going to serve this community as a political candidate or as a private citizen. I hope and expect that it’ll be the former. But even if it’s the latter, you can count on continuing to see this no-nonsense face for a long time to come, wherever there’s an opportunity to advocate for the least of these, and push this community towards progress. ❤️💪

Checking in quickly from summer break, to once again thank every voter who signed the petition! We will hopefully have a final decision from the state and local election offices by mid next week.
I’m thankful for our local election officials doing the laborious work of manually checking thousands of signatures. I’m confident they’re doing their job well, and are working to make sure every possible signature is counted, within the law.
Independent candidate's petition signatures questioned An estimated 3,600 signatures were submitted in a petition in support of Laura Khurana’s bid to run as an independent candidate for the At-large Post 2 Glynn County Commission seat.
