As this month’s lane splitting and lane filtering campaign comes to a close, one message remains important: ride predictably and prioritize safety.

In Texas, lane splitting and lane filtering are not legal and can create unexpected situations for both riders and drivers. Staying in your lane helps improve visibility, reaction time and space to respond to traffic conditions.

How can autonomous vehicle technology help improve roadway safety for motorcyclists and other vulnerable road users?

During the Forum, Bart Teeter and Andy Burnett of Bot Auto explored practical strategies for deploying driverless commercial vehicles responsibly, minimizing human error and enhancing detection and response around motorcycles and mixed traffic environments.

While vehicle technology continues to evolve, rider awareness remains essential. Stay visible, ride predictably and always watch for larger vehicles that may have limited visibility.

Texas law allows motorcyclists to ride 2 abreast in a single lane with another motorcycle. However, riding more than 2 abreast in the same lane is not permitted. Ride aware, stay positioned safely and follow proper lane formation.
