Saturday, May 2, 2026 — The following photographs were taken at the inaugural Roy P. Benavidez Legacy Luncheon in Austin, Texas. In attendance were community leaders, elected officials, students, veterans, active duty personnel, and Roy Benavidez’s daughters and other members of his family.

The event was an emotional, yet fitting tribute to a man whose heroic actions in the jungles of Vietnam on May 2, 1968, set a new standard for what love of country and love for your fellow man truly means.

Captured in these photographs are moments from this inaugural legacy luncheon. If you see yourself in a photo, please tag and share.

Green Beret Master Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez, call sign “Tango Mike Mike,” was awarded our nation’s highest military honor — the Congressional Medal of Honor. His courage, tenacity, and unwavering determination demonstrated on May 2, 1968, in Vietnam earned him recognition as a true American hero.

Benavidez, who was himself a school dropout, understood the importance and lasting value of education. If you would like to help support his legacy, please consider contributing whatever you can to the Benavidez Scholarship Fund.

The overwhelming support shown by attendees, sponsors, and community partners at this luncheon reflected a deep commitment to preserving the legacy of Roy P. Benavidez while creating meaningful opportunities for future generations through scholarships and educational initiatives.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our inaugural event sponsors, who believed in the vision of this luncheon from the very beginning: Altria; Alejandra de la Torre – State Farm; Mid-America Contractors; Saldana Public Relations; Battle Tested Performance; and Juna Rivera – Capitol Insurance Agency. Their generous support played a vital role in making this memorable event possible.

A special thank you to the talented photographer behind these incredible photos — Christopher Paul Cardoza.
