Keeping true to the book. I hit up La Cumbre Taqueria San Francisco this week. Burritos (veggie) cost $5.00 now, and worth twice as much!
From Rumbustious: 1992?
"A few hours of drinking in the park and we found ourselves
hungry again. Aaron had a favorite taco joint named Taqueria La
Cumbre. Luckily Valencia and 16th streets were all downhill from
the park, and we made the two-mile decent with ease. $1.25 for the
biggest, baddest burrito I ever had in my life. In that moment, not
knowing where life would take me, I knew La Cumbre would be a
forever destination, and that has held true 25 years later."

Yes I was homeless. Yes we lived on a beach in Northern California. it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Excerpt from Rumbustious by Jesse Zuefle...
Day blended into night and back into day at Clam Beach. Twenty-four hour intoxication, minus sleep. Billy Gorman would love this place. Not primarily because of the booze, rather all the wild characters, outfits, and freedom. I wish he were here with us in this moment. I ended up shacked up with a woman in her tent in broad daylight, which was a disturbing but interesting experience as I could hear her unattended child running around outside the tent. The connections we made here were brief, but all intense. Earl, a mentally ill, older (probably 40ish year old) black man had become my main buddy at the beach. After three days, Aaron, Doug and I, in a moment of clarity, made the decision it was time to leave. This place was too fun, but could also eat you up. We said our goodbyes, and someone told us, “Remember, we’re not without a home, just without a structure. Then it was Earl’s turn. He walked over to me, and without saying a word took his prized possession, his brown felt hat and placed it on my head, and walked away. In three days, we had made a new family. A very dysfunctional family which we needed to leave behind.
