"Propagation and Endurance" explores the diverse world of seed pods—plants' endlessly creative solutions to this one essential question.
Through clay and steel sculptures, ceramic artist Deborah Stewart tasks us to recognize the strength, resiliency, and determination of plants and the lesson they hold: that there is an enduring power in fragile things.

How do we survive?
"Propagation and Endurance" explores the diverse world of seed pods—plants' endlessly creative solutions to this one essential question.
Through clay and steel sculptures, ceramic artist Deborah Stewart tasks us to recognize the strength, resiliency, and determination of plants and the lesson they hold: that there is an enduring power in fragile things.
Seed pods are the protective casing on plants that enable natural propagation: the protecting, maturing, and dispersing of new seeds. Whether a hard outer shell or delicate winged pods, the plant world is filled with an incredible number of different survival strategies.
Stewart finds great beauty in their protective casing and embodiment of the problem-solving nature of plants.
That some of the most vulnerable organisms around us always find ways to be durable and survive, despite intense environments and external forces.
