Darrell Porter: Solo

I guess I've been a songwriter for most of my life. In 40 years, I’ve only written about 50–60 songs and released around 20 because I need to believe a song actually says something. If it doesn’t have meaning, it’s just noise.

"88" holds more meaning than anything I've ever written. I hope it connects with you.

The song took a long time to finish—not because it was hard to write, but because writing about loss was emotional. Every time I sat down with it, it brought heavy introspection.

Huge shoutout to my bud, Noah Hulbirt. Not only did he shoot and produce the video, but he also put up with my s**t every time I had something to say after watching an edit. I've said this many times over the years—apparently, I’m extremely difficult to work with as a musician.
