Spring weather in January! We will take it if it means we can have a beautiful walk with our community dog and check out our next door neighbors’ garden! Fresh air = good for the soul!

Music is an exceptional use of purpose. 🎹
Much like other forms of engagement in memory care, it isn’t something we give TO or do FOR our residents. Music requires partnership and participation. 🎵
The PLWD (person(s) living with dementia) doesn’t just listen to music. A part of their spirit is touched, which beckons them to respond via:
1) Clapping along
2) Singing
3) Smiling
4) Closing their eyes, tilting their head back, and enjoying
5) Humming
6) Dancing
7) Or, in this case, playing the piano and “yeeeee-hawing” with the entertainer.
Just before this clip, Arlan the Piano man had Miss P assisting him with a song on the keyboard. Her participation was a utilization of purpose and a gateway to connection between her and Arlan, between her and the crowd, and — most of all — between her and her own spirit. 💟
The joy was evident. 😄
When you surround PLWD with individuals who deeply understand their humanity and need for dignity, this is the result. We are not their “givers” of care; we are participants WITH them. 🧑🤝🧑

Intergenerational relationships: a goal of ours at Bella Groves that is becoming more of a reality every day!
Our community has been anticipating a relationship with a local school, Johnson Ranch Elementary, that we just so happen to be NEXT-DOOR neighbors with (what are the odds). 📚🚌
Thanks to the members of the student council who are open to connection and opportunity, our residents now have pen pals! 👯 ✍️📝
Yesterday, letters were delivered for every single one of our residents. Multiple have already written back (featured in the first picture here). 💌 One of the students even put together gift baskets along with their personal letter; so touching. 🎁
