Thank you to the teachers who participated in the pilot of our new sickle cell disease lab!

Funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), this lab guides students through the analysis of a family pedigree to determine the genotypes of individual family members, connecting genetics concepts to a real-world health context.

We were grateful for the opportunity to partner with teachers in a virtual and hands-on session to introduce the lab ahead of its fall 2026 rollout. Thanks for their thoughtful feedback so we can further refine the lesson!

The full circle of that moment was not lost on us when we returned to San Mateo High School for a professional development session with teachers from across the county. 🏫
