It's done! The book will be published May 1st. I'm excited for it to be out there in the world AND here's the first lesson I learned from 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 the book. ✦ Amazing things can come from a mistake... ✦

This book was a mistake. It could have been just an accident or maybe fate, but I made the mistake that brought this book to life.

I had this idea of offering a checklist to use on a first draft as a reader magnet (a freebie offered to people who sign up for my newsletter). As I was testing the setup for a client’s book, I thought I’d use the checklist idea to mock up a manuscript and cover. I went through reviewing and pricing, but instead of hitting the white button labeled “Save as Draft” I hit the yellow button “Publish Your Paperback Book.”

As soon as I hit the wrong button, I realized what I had done. But it was no big deal I thought. The book will either be returned for errors, or I’ll take it down as soon as it’s published. No one will know what I did. EASY! I watched the clock and the KDP page. NO WORRIES!

I hit the Unpublish button and didn’t think about it again. Until… months later, a friend and fellow writer mentioned she saw I had published a book in June, but she couldn’t buy it. She had seen it on Goodreads. I shook my head and said I hadn’t published anything.

Then realization struck—the book I had accidentally published and then unpublished. In less than four hours, Goodreads had scraped the book off Amazon (Goodreads is owned by Amazon, so that makes sense) and had added it to my Goodreads author page. Oops!

I laughed and said I knew what book I would be writing and publishing next. Here it is!
