What a busy week! We are in the middle of foaling, breeding and irrigating season and there is so much to be thankful for every time a birth goes as planned. People not involved in equine breeding would be amazed at how many times things don't work out in spite of your best efforts to get a live foal on the ground. It takes many people to help keep things rolling and we so appreciate our helper girls and veterinarians. We couldn't do it without them.
We are currently hauling into the vet clinic to ultrasound for preg checks on the mares for next year's crop. Shown here is a quick snapshot of the ranch girls with mares waiting for their turn to be checked at the clinic.
Dr. Liz Scott at Idaho Equine has been our go to person for reproductive work for over 44 years of collaboration, and has seen several generations of our horses come into the world. Since we deal so much with an aging mare population due to mares being out on the endurance trail before coming back to the broodmare band, Dr. Scott has been instrumental in helping us get those special foals. She has helped bring many Belesemo foals into existence or confirmed pregnancies for us. We snapped a quick photo of her usual position behind a mare in the stocks when we are at the clinic!😊
In between, we are handling foals, teaching them the basics of becoming proper horse citizens by leading, picking up feet, being haltered, etc.
We are also happy to get Belesemo horses into the hands of new owners or helping current members of our Belesemo family facilitate getting horses into the hands of other family members. Shown here is Belesemo Apollo (Belesemo Ibn Trad x Om El Saleena) owned by Sarah Hutchins climbing aboard the Equine Express van to go completely across the United States to his new owner Natasha Cumbie in North Carolina. Safe travels Buddy as the journey will take approximately five days. We are excited for Natasha to get a second Belesemo line horse.
We are so grateful and blessed in all the veterinarian, ranch helpers, clients and family that help keep everything going. THANK YOU is not a strong enough word to express our deep appreciation!! ❣️

FLASHBACK FRIDAY!! Literally a BLAST FROM THE PAST!
We have been wanting to feature not only the wonderful purchasers of our horses that make the ranch what it is, but also the hard working girls that have helped in the weekly rituals so necessary to a horse farm.
For the past 35 years that we have lived on this ranch, we have had 2 to 4 girls that come in once or twice a week in spring and summer, volunteering to assist us in cleaning stalls, pens, teasing mares and handling foals.
They range in age from 13 to 18 and work May through October, helping us with the physical labor. Sometimes they are able to stay a couple summers, some have come back for four or more years every summer. We have enjoyed taking them to horse shows,, attending endurance and trail rides, parades, rodeos and also going to Scottsdale, U.S. Sport Horse Nationals and Cavalia in Canada to increase their equestrian experience.
They in turn have been horse crazy girls that have several times gifted us with their artistic talents as well. We wish we could feature photos of them all through the 35 years, and the generations of horses they have helped raise. We were amazed when we counted up 40 girls that have blessed us with their help. Many of them now have families of their own - even graduating kids! We hope it has been as much fun for them as it has been for us. What a fantastic ride and partnership it has been! Thank you for the wonderful memories!
