Right-O'-Way

After way, way too long it looks like we can finally get back on James Schultz's Sunset 3rd Rail model. It's been so long I forgot what these wheels actually go to. E-5 maybe? I dunno. Quill something, I'm told. Sarah drew up wheels and we printed them in castable resin. Way too many flaws in the tread so we decided to make steel tires and turn down the drivers so we can press them on. Steel will provide better traction than Nickel Silver anyway.

These will be machined for P48. I need 12 good tires so I had them make 24. Gotta allow for the whoops factor (that's the cleaned up version).

Still trying to dig out from all the projects that have been sitting here for years. Progress, just not intelligently planned.

Today I took delivery of the parts, excluding the wheels, from Sunset 3rd Rail that are used to make drop in P48 conversion wheel sets. These will work in all their diesel models made after 2017. Earlier models use a different gear on the axles but we have those in stock already.

Included in today's delivery are factory bronze gears & bearings, engineering plastic thrust washers that go between the gear & bearings, and axles made to my specs so I can use Right-O'-Way steel wheels.

There are enough parts to make slightly over 600 axle sets.

I now wish I'd ordered another 100 axles because, with slight modification I can use them to make conversion sets for the Atlas SW7/8/9, SW1200 & 1500, long with their MP15. Oh well, maybe next time
